Let's Get Started!!

Brace yourselves…The apprenticeship is here!!

The Collin FOCUS staff team! Garrett, Cody, Pedro, Me, Mark, Dani, Jacy, Adriana, Abbie

Greetings

I am super excited for you to join me in this incredible journey and witness what God has in store! I was reflecting this week when I first started college at Collin. I didn't have a lot of Christian friends and I didn't make any effort to grow my faith in Jesus. When I was introduce to FOCUS by a student, I didn't go because I wasn't interested in it. But later God continuously  drawing me towards this ministry and I am thankful

Staff Retreat

The first experience of a FOCUS apprentice was going to Summer Staff Retreat for 3 days. Our whole staff used to plan a trip somewhere together, but this year every campus planned their own retreat. The Collin staff team went to a lake house out around Cypress Spring Lake in east Texas. And thank you Casey and Katelyn for hosting us. At our retreat, we read a book called "In the Name of Jesus" by Henri J.M Nouwen. In his book, he reflects upon the challenges, solutions and problems within today’s Christian leadership. I'm so much more prepared for this year, thanks to the encouraging and inspiring things my coworkers shared.

The Classes

At the beginning of August, we started our journey into the Old Testament where we read each book of the Old Testament in order. We listened to scholarly audio lectures from professor Iain Provan at Regent College (in Vancouver, CA), and listening to his lectures. The classes have been helping me by 1.) how to be a critical reader & thinker, and 2.) asking the Holy Spirit to see the Old Testament at a different approach and understand about God. One of the lectures I listened to over the summer will reflect my time during the apprenticeship, “Our knowledge changes, but God never changes” - Rikk Watts (ph.D).

Our Old Testament Foundation class lead by Brandon Worsham

These wonderful people I get to do the apprenticeship at Collin College with the next 10 months! (Jacy, Mark [my roommate also!], me, and Adriana)

This great guy’s name is Pedro. He is my supervisor I will report to him what I’m learning, have any questions about what we do as a ministry, and build life with him. I really look forward to spending a lot of time with him. Love this guy very much!!!

What's Next?

Welcome week is coming around really soon! Our students and staff go out at our campuses on the first week of school, play a few yard games or board games, and begin building new friendship with students. Welcome week has been the biggest turn out at Collin  and I will post photos of it on my next blog.

Old Testament foundations is still the main class we have right now, until after welcome week. I ask you to pray for God to continue to reveal new things from His story that I've never encounter before, and ultimately to draw me more closer to Him as I understand his heart.

Finally, thank you so much for your monetary support and prayers for me through these next 10 months. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me and the students at Collin! I look forward to following up with you next month.

                                                    Our monthly testimony
